It is a court of law and the highest criminal court in our state. Our Court of Criminal Appeals handles thousands of cases involv- ing complex legal issues, constitu- tional rights, and, in some instances, life-and-death decisions. Texans deserve judges who understand the weight of that responsibility and who respect the ethical boundaries that come with it. I have spent my career working within those boundaries—handling thousands of criminal appeals and serving inside the very Court I seek to join. As a matter of fact, I am the only candidate in this runoff with criminal trial and appellate experience. As judicial candidates, we are bound by clear ethical standards of the Judicial Code of Conduct. We are not permitted to publicly declare how we would rule on cases that may come before the Court. This isn’t a technicality— it’s fundamental to preserving fairness and public confidence in the judiciary. When a candidate openly criticizes a specific case and signals a pre- determined outcome, it creates a real risk of disqualification. Because of statements made, if elected, my opponent could be forced to recuse himself from any future election law appeals—effectively sidelining himself from the sole issue that defines his campaign. I know the law. I know the role of a judge is not to campaign on outcomes, but to apply the law faithfully, impartially, and to never legislate from the bench. That is my commitment to you, to Texas. The runoff election between Mayes Middleton and Chip Roy is on May 26, 2026. Aaron Reitz issued the following statement in support of Mayes Middleton for Texas Attorney General. Must Have Three Qualities In my last public statement, I said that the next Attorney General of Texas must have three qualities. ■ First, he must be a staunch and loyal ally to President Trump. ■ Second, he must carry forward the fighting legacy of Attorney General Paxton. ■ Third, he must recognize that we are in a real war for the soul of our state and nation. As between Mayes Middleton and Chip Roy, only Mayes Middleton meets those criteria—and that is why he has earned my enthusiastic endorsement to be the next Attorney General. First, Mayes has always been aligned with Trump. Trump described Mayes as a “very effective leader” and said his “voting record on Conservative issues is second to none.” In contrast, Chip described Trump as “wrong, troubling, and impeachable” in 2021 and was one of his loudest critics during the 2024 Republican primary election for president. Second, Mayes’s record in public service shows that he has the mind, heart, and willpower to keep his foot on the gas after Paxton leaves office. In contrast, Chip was the first elected official in America to demand that AG Paxton step down or be removed from office in 2020, and he was the leading national cheerleader pushing for Paxton’s impeach- ment and conviction in 2023. Third, Mayes understands we’re in a real war with the radical Left and has led accordingly: kicking biological males out of female athletics and private spaces, stripping poisonous food and drink from welfare benefits, blocking hostile foreign nations from buying Texas land, reinforcing election-integrity laws, and equipping law enforcement with tools to secure the border. In contrast, Chip talks a big game about being in the fight but accomplishes little. Chip is, as President Trump described him, “just another ambi- tious guy,” “not done a great job,” “getting in the way, as usual,” and motivated by an obsessive desire for “cheap publicity for himself.” In summary, Mayes Middleton has my full backing for Attorney General, and I encour- age all my former- donors and voters to throw their support behind Mayes Middleton too. David Barton is the highly respected founder of WallBuilders, which educates on our nation’s Biblical foundation. He stated: “Mayes Middleton is a man of integrity, a man of principle, a man of faith. He understands the Judeo-Christian foundation of our nation is under attack, and he’s fighting back. He authored the bill to restore prayer in schools and fought to return the Ten Commandments to our classrooms. Mayes will fearlessly defend our religious liberties.” Texas Right to Life President Dr. John Seago stated: “Texas Right to Life PAC endorses Mayes Middleton because he has shown the courage, clarity, and consistent leadership the Pro-Life movement demands. As attorney general, he will be a steadfast defender of our laws and a leader at the forefront of our ongoing campaign to protect the Right to Life of all Americans.” Jonathan Saenz and Texas Values Action, which fights for pro-family legislation at the Capitol, has endorsed Middleton. Saenz says: “We’ve been able to count on him to pass laws that have strong enforcement mechanisms. That tells us that we can count on him to follow through and enforce these types of laws and others that are passed when he gets elected Attorney General.” Riley Gaines endorsed Mayes for his leadership in pass- ing the “Save Women’s Sports” bill, ensuring that only biological girls can play in girls’ sports. Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare said: “I am excited to endorse Mayes Middleton, a man of strong faith and integrity, for Attorney General. With his long and proven record of principled Conservative leadership, Mayes will help ensure that Tarrant County remains the largest Republican county in Texas.” Numerous grassroots organizations have endorsed Middleton, pointing to his proven record of fighting to pass conservative laws. Examples include: Moms for America Action, Texas Home School Coalition, Kingwood Tea Party, San Jacinto Conservatives, Young Conservatives of Texas, and True Texas Project. Middleton’s record of backing the blue has earned him the endorsements of sheriffs in the largest 7 GOP counties including: Bill Waybourn (Tarrant), Jim Skinner (Collin), Tracy Murphree (Denton), Wesley Doolittle (Montgomery), Matt Lindemann (Williamson), Bo Stallman (Brazoria), and Jimmy Fullen (Galveston). Calling out opponent Chip Roy on his weak law enforcement record, the Texas Fraternal Order of Police endorsed Middleton, saying: “In the race for Texas Attorney General, Mayes Middleton is the only candidate who can be trusted to back law enforcement. Instead of standing with us, Chip Roy worked to gut the Protect and Serve Act, a priority bill to hold criminals accountable who knowingly assault a law enforcement officer. This bill was crafted to address abuses by ‘woke’ rogue prosecutors who fail to enforce the law, yet Chip Roy blocked this leg- islation. Brent Money Texas is the energy capital of the free world. It drives the national economy, shapes global markets, and pow- ers American exceptionalism. Texas oil and gas has fueled our nation to victory in World War II, in the Cold War, and places us in a strong position to win the fight against radical Islam both in the Middle East and everywhere it is spreading across the world. Tasked with regulating this industry is the Texas Railroad Commission. As you can imagine, it is incredibly important that this Commission be led by an America First conservative who understands both the oil and gas industry and the duty we have to lead the world. Unfortunately, Jim Wright, has failed on both accounts. As Chairman of the Railroad Commission, Jim Wright has implemented Joe Biden-style DEI and environmental regulations and even made it harder for small oil and gas operations to compete with multinational corporations. That shouldn’t come as a surprise given that he’s donated tens of thousands of dollars to Democrats and cozied up to foreigners at the expense of Texans. That has to change. That’s why I’m endorsing Republican Bo French for Texas Railroad Commissioner. Bo French is not the safe, go-along-to-get-along candi- date. He’s not backed by the Austin establishment. And he’s not interested in preserving a broken status quo. He’s running to shake it up, and that’s exactly what we need. Bo French has worked in the industry for decades and knows Texas energy producers are under constant pres- sure. Washington bureaucrats want to regulate them out of existence. ESG activists want to defund them. And too often, even here in Texas, regulators act more like referees for the federal government than defenders of our own economy. Bo’s mission is simple: protect Texas energy, cut unnecessary red tape, and fight back against any attempt to undermine our industry. French is also a proven America First warrior who has stood up to the Chinese Communist Party, fought the Islamification of Texas, and opposed DEI and amnesty efforts. I would argue what happens in Texas affects the world. That has been true in the fight for religious liberty for the last 70 years. A new battle over religious liberty is brewing in the race to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate. And so far, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his team are on the wrong side of it. Sen. John Cornyn released a list of five highly respected faith leaders from across Texas who now make up the Senator's Faith Advisory Council. John Cornyn’s opponent Ken Paxton and his team have chosen to respond to Cornyn’s announcement of his Faith Advisory Council by attacking the pastors of the council, including Dr. Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, who used to be Paxton’s own pastor. Paxton’s Attack Repugnant In what universe did Paxton and his team believe this was the morally or politically correct response? For a Republican candidate to engage in an all-out assault on conservative pastors and faith leaders is repugnant. It is also a sign of a desperate candidate and campaign resorting to desperate measures. Instead of seeking to destroy faith leaders associated with John Cornyn, wouldn’t it make more sense for Paxton to simply produce his own list of pastors whom he goes to for advice? We all need wise counselors in our lives and to heed their advice. The list of Paxton’s indiscretions is increasingly public and tragically long. If Paxton has not been in recent communication with as many Christian leaders as he once was, now would be the perfect time to renew those relationships. New IRS Rules I applaud John Cornyn for responding to the new IRS rules by ushering godly voices into the public square. And I especially applaud Dr. Graham of Prestonwood, Max Lucado of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Dr. Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Church Dallas, Dr. Gus Reyes, board member of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, and Dr. Phil Schubert, President of Abilene Christian University, for showing courage and taking action. Texas needs their voices now more than ever. These leaders of the faith understand that their ministry doesn’t stop at the church house door. Unfortunately, Paxton and his team seem to believe that the spiritual and political spheres should be mutually exclusive. May more leaders of the faith from across Texas and beyond be inspired in the weeks to come to join their ranks. Intimidation Intended to Silence Opposition At a time when intimidation keeps people of faith out of the political process, Christians should be embracing these rare leaders. Paxton and his team’s persecution of their fellow believers is destructive to the process and extraordinarily hypocritical. These attacks are grounded in the age-old spiritual battle that seizes every opportunity to create confusion among Christians. Any believer who doesn’t understand unity ultimately can be used as a tool for evil In my reading of Scripture, this is “cherry picking” the truth to fit their own interests.
