BUT many people – your friends, co-workers, neighbors, and even family members – may not realize just how critical Primary Votes ac- tually are. In many ways, Mid-Term Primary Elections are MORE IMPORTANT than General Elections – even more so than a Presidential Election! If too few people turn out to vote in a Mid-Term Pri- mary Election, the most qualified, most Conservative candidate may not be nominated, which may result in a loss to a left-leaning Democrat in the General Election. Or worse: An underserving Republican. We cannot allow this to happen! Another Little-Known Fact When a particular Party is in power in WDC, the vot- ers for that Party often-times feel comfortable and safe and do not turn out to vote in Mid-Term Elections – es- pecially Primaries. Many voters believe their Party will win – no matter what. Many believe their favorite candidate is a shoe-in just because he/she is the incumbent or is popular among a certain demographic. This cannot be further from the truth! Our Safety is at Risk Mid-Term Primary Elections are CRITICAL to the safety of our nation. The future of our children and grandchildren depend on us TODAY to vote for the most qualified, most Conservative candidates possible. Who we elect will have an impact on our nation for years and decades to come. Choose a candidate to help. Volunteer for them. Block walking and making phones calls really do make a dif- ference! Many people believe that the Governor of Texas is just a “fluff” role in government, but that could not be further from the truth. What Can A Texas Governor Do? Among other core duties, the Texas Governor is the Commander-in-Chief of the state’s military forces, which includes the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, and Texas State Guard. Additionally, the governor is responsible for policy recommendations for both the state House and state Senate and has the power to veto or sign into law any bill which is passed by the Legislature. Similar to the President of the United States, the Texas Governor can grant commutations and reprieves as recommended by the Board of Pardons and Paroles. One of the most important responsibilities is appointing the Secretary of State and others who oversee state depart- ments and agencies, which impact the lives of every Texan. Governor Greg Abbott was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, and raised in Duncanville, a city in southwestern Dallas County. Shortly after graduating from Vanderbilt University with a law degree, he was paralyzed by a falling tree while jogging. Greg never let his disability slow him down, though! He likes to say: “Life is defined not by the challenges we face, but by how we respond to those challenges.” Governor Greg Abbott served as a District Court Judge in Harris County and then as a Justice on the Texas Supreme Court from 1996-2001. Abbott was the Texas Attorney General from 2002-2015 before being elected as Governor in 2014, making him the longest-serving incumbent Governor in the United States. Greg is married to Cecilia Abbott, the first Hispanic First Lady of Texas. They have one daughter, Audrey, who recently married her college sweetheart. Governor Abbott and Cecilia live in Austin with their three Golden Retrievers: Peaches, Pancake, and Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. What Has Abbott Done For Texas? Over the past eleven years, Governor Greg Abbott has helped shape Texas into the fastest-growing economy in the United States. He is proud to have passed the largest school-choice program in the nation during the last Legislative Session, allowing thousands of Texas families the means to choose the best educational path possible for their children. Under Governor Abbott’s leadership and guidance, the Texas Legislature provided the largest property tax cut in Texas history in 2023, which will help millions upon mil- lions of hard-working individuals and families across the state. Governor Greg Abbott also recognizes the need to keep Texas families safe, promoting bills which protect our border and defend our state from federal overreach. Additionally, Greg recently designated the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorists and banned the construction of “Sharia compounds” in Texas. By Terry Lowry, Editor The people of Texas entrust the Court of Criminal Appeals with some of the most serious cases in our justice system—cases involving life, liberty, victims, and public safety. Given these stakes, judges on this Court must bring more than ambition. They must bring experience, discipline, and a deep respect for the Constitution and the moral foundations upon which it rests. Alison Fox has served as a trial and appellate prosecutor in the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office and later as Director of a Conviction Integrity Unit, where she investigat- ed wrongdoing by public officials, defended lawful convic- tions, and worked closely with law enforcement to uphold constitutional and ethical standards.
